Plans to demolish the site of a landmark pub to make way for new apartments have been given the green light

Permission has been granted by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council to demolish the site of The Royal Oak and build thirteen two-bed apartments. The Carrickfergus pub, located next to the PSNI station in the town with views of Belfast Lough, celebrated 60 years of operations this year.The application to transform the site into a new accommodation block was submitted by Mr Michael Degnan, current proprietor of The Royal Oak.
The planning application reads: "Demolition of existing public house. Proposed erection of 13 two-bed apartments in two blocks with associated site works, open space, landscaping and carparking.The Royal Oak is at this time still open to the public and there is no confirmation of when the venue will close for the demolition to begin.
