Summary Coming to theaters on August 18th, Landscape With Invisible Hand tells the story of two clashing families who agree to share space in a post-alien invasion world. What starts as a genuine romance between the teens in the house turns into a monetary ploy when Chloe comes up with the idea to live stream their relationship for the Vuvv.
Cory Finley: Above all, it was just how insane this book was, and hopefully how insane the movie is, in a good way. It had this totally out-there alien invasion premise but used that premise to tackle some real issues. I think it's a story that has a lot on its mind but does not take itself too seriously, which is right in my wheelhouse.
This felt like a collection of stories that led into one another and eventually circled back. You have Adam and Chloe’s relationship, Beth’s alien dilemma, and Adam’s artwork. What was the heart of the film to you? Cory Finley: I certainly do hope audiences have a variety of strong feelings toward the character as you're sort of alluding to. Chloe is one half of the central love story. I think she really does fall for the main character, Adam, but I think she has been through more economic hardship than Adam has.
Cory Finley: Yes. So we did not do the full Lord of the Rings, invent an entire Elvish language thing, but we came a little close. All of the Vuvv speech became the purview of Gene Park, who's one of my longest-term collaborators. He's the supervising sound mixer and editor on the movie. Very early on, as soon as we started developing the creatures' look, we also wanted to think about how they talked.
