The State Emergency Service ( SES ) responded to the emergency at Penny Lane in McCrae around 8:45 am, alongside Fire Rescue Victoria and Ambulance Victoria . A Mornington Peninsula Shire council worker conducting a routine house inspection was forced to jump from the second-storey balcony as the home began to slide.
The worker, in his 50s, sustained injuries to his lower body and was transported to Frankston Hospital, where he is currently in a stable condition. The SES has warned that authorities are closely monitoring the area for any further subsidence, particularly in light of predicted storms for the afternoon. They urge the public to stay informed, avoid the landslide site, and be aware that the slope may continue to move for hours or days.The landslide triggered a multi-agency response, led by the SES, and unfolded dramatically. Witness Michael Brown recounted the scene, stating that the house was seemingly stable one moment and then began to slide down the hill the next, prompting the worker to leap for safety. The owner of the beachside holiday home, Nick Moran, expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the incident. He noted that a previous landslide from the same property a week prior had narrowly missed his daughter and wife.Mr. Moran highlighted the significance of the latest landslide and stated that his family would be taking a measured approach to resolving the situation with all relevant parties. He mentioned engaging a lawyer and insurance company to address the civil issues arising from the incident. Local resident Tanina Osborne, who was swimming in the area that morning, vividly described the sound of the landslide, comparing it to a truckload of rocks crashing to the ground.
