Police have closed off a large area of downtown Anchorage to traffic as they respond to an incident, with officers concentrated in the area of the Hotel Captain Cook. The nature of the incident wasn’t immediately clear. Police did not respond to requests for more information.Three officers at that corner waved away pedestrians and told them were was a man on a top floor threatening to shoot people and that he had access to multiple weapons. The officers were training assault rifles on the hotel’s western tower.
Police are asking the public to avoid areas closed to traffic between 3rd Avenue and 7th Avenue between K Street and I Street and also between 4th and 5th Avenues between K Street and I Street.
