EL PASO, Texas — A large group of people rushed the Paso Del Norte international bridge, which connects Mexico to El Paso, Sunday in an attempt to cross into the U.S., officials said.
According to a statement obtained by Spectrum News 1 from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, “CBP officers including members of the CBP Mobile Field Force implemented port hardening measures at the Paso Del Norte international bridge at 1:30 p.m. today temporarily preventing the northbound flow of traffic after a large group of individuals formed on the Mexican side of the border and approached the international boundary posing a potential threat to make a mass entry.
Video shot by a local news channel, Noticias 26, shows a chaotic scene, with hundreds of people appearing to storm the port of entry. CBP said that at the same time, there were disruptions at two other ports of entry due to attempted migrant crossings. “Barricades were used at the Stanton crossing from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. and at the Bridge of the Americas from 2:45 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.,” CBP wrote in its statement.
