It joined the 'long list' of other loved high street shops to close
It's now been decades since one of Liverpool's famous department stores first opened its doors in Liverpool city centre , but only a few years since we said goodbye to it for good. Founded in 1971, many will remember the days when Rapid Hardware expanded across the length of Renshaw Street. One of the city’s retail landmarks, the family-run department store was famous for its DIY, garden and home improvement products and continued to successfully grow in the city centre.
A spokesperson for Duff & Phelps said last week: “All remaining employees have been informed and will be supported through redundancy proceedings.' These images, rediscovered from our archive, show the last days of Rapid in Liverpool. Here, you can see customers inside the store and what items were left on the shelves, as well as what the site looked like at that moment in time.
