It's hard to believe it's been 15 years since we said goodbye to this scouse institution
It's now been well over a century since one of Liverpool's famous department stores first opened its doors in Liverpool city centre , but only a few years since we said goodbye to it for good. If you grew up in the city you'll likely have visited the landmark that was Lewis's at some point over the years Based on the corner of Renshaw Street and Ranleigh Street , it was the flagship store of the Lewis’s empire and started from humble beginnings in the 19th century.
Mary McKenna, from Southport , was among those who had shopped at the store for more than half a century. She previously said: 'It’s very emotional. To see it looking like a market hall makes you want to cry. 'I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember. I can remember coming in on a Saturday afternoon, you’d always see Ken Dodd in the food hall. There’s a lot of memories here for a lot of people. Liverpool is all the poorer without it.
