Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Reds target summer move for Gunners defender
Nottingham Forest have Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares in their sights as they look to bolster their defensive resources.
An £8 million move to Arsenal followed in July 2021, with Tavares penning “a long-term contract”. Manager Mikel Arteta said at the time: “He is a young player with great promise who has developed very well with Benfica in recent seasons and has also shown his quality by being part of Portugal Under-21s. Nuno’s arrival will give the squad extra strength and options in defence, particularly with this energy on the left side of the pitch.
Other admirers and Arsenal’s stance Bundesliga duo Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg are also said to have approached the Gunners over a deal for the player. However, our sister title Football.London say the 23-year-old would prefer to stay in England to continue playing in the Premier League. That fee is based on the initial £7m charged for Turner, in a deal which will eventually be worth £10m. Football.London report Tavares’ regular game time with Marseille should mean the Gunners can “extract slightly more” than they managed for Turner, but not by much.
“It doesn’t get any tougher than this league,” he has said. “We managed to survive last season. We did it in a certain way. We’ve got to try to evolve that, but to do that we need to add to the starting team and, consequently, to the squad. Fingers crossed that sort of stuff can kick in, because we need it.
