The Rabbitohs superstar, and NSW selectors, can breathe a sigh of relief after another unwanted headache on Saturday night.

Latrell Mitchell will still be available for NSW Origin selection if he accepts a $3000 fine for a grade one dangerous contact charge out of South Sydney win over Parramatta on Saturday night.

As the Blues deal with injury havoc in the halves and rookie coach Michael Maguire weighs up his options at centre, Mitchell’s citing for a tackle on Eels centre Sean Russell added yet another unwanted headache to the mix ahead of Origin I. Mitchell can escape suspension however if he takes an early guilty plea after being charged with grade one dangerous contact. He would risk a two-game ban if he fought the charge at the judiciary and lost.

The Rabbitohs superstar has been considered an outside chance for NSW after a drama-filled season, which has included several weeks of uncertainty over whether he would make himself available for Origin selection. Mitchell confirmed he is “100 per cent” available for the first time following Souths breakthrough win over Parramatta, but also played down Origin talk before interim Rabbitohs coach Ben Hornby interjected during the post-game press conference.“I’m expecting Latrell and Cody to make the team. They’re good enough players and they’ve shown before they should make the team.Maguire will name his first NSW Blues squad Monday.
