Tonight Laura Dern claimed her fifth GoldenGlobe—this time for her scene-stealing work in Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story
Dern plays Nora—the fierce, fashion-forward lawyer representing’s Charlie. The actor gets many of the comic moments—and one memorable feminist monologue—in the heartbreaking film.was very much a collaborative effort between herself, Baumbach, and the two leads.
“Adam, myself, and then Scarlett had a year and a half of dinners and conversations, sharing love stories, heartbreaks, childhoods—everything,” Dern told the. “Noah said, ’I want to make a love story through the lens of divorce.’ That was an amazing gift—because we got to define how to do that together.”
Dern has also discussed how liberating it was to play “a woman in a position of power, who’ll never lose her cool…. It’s wild to play that kind of agenda without insecurity.” Awards pundits considered Dern’s stiffest competition in the Golden Globes category to be Lopez.
