Earlier that year, Johnson spoke on a panel titled “We Don’t Call Police: A Town Hall on a Police-Free Future,” where he praised organizers for pushing “an agenda that actually can transform people’s lives,” the Tribune reported. “Please let me know where I said that,” he replied. “The bottom line is I have talked about restoring proactive policing that is consistent with the consent decree, and I’ve said that over and over again.”
