The LAUSD issued a statement that said district officials "have been in conversation with SEIU Local 99 leaders with the assistance and support of Mayor Bass." Some SEIU workers began their day Wednesday rallying at a Gardena bus yard, before picket lines emerged at LAUSD campuses across the area. UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz had fiery words for Carvalho, accusing him of short-changing workers and refusing to bargain privately with workers, and saying the district had ample time to negotiate a fair deal but failed to do so.
