A prominent human rights lawyer has exposed the harsh reality behind China's pervasive organ harvesting regime.
A renowned international human rights lawyer campaigning for legislation to combat illegal organ harvesting has detailed the grim facts behind how China sources many of its organs.
A 2007 investigative report conducted by Canadian MP David Kilgour and human rights lawyer David Matas concluded that a hospital in the country's Sujiatun District was conducting large-scale organ seizures from unwilling Falun Gong practitioners. “The numbers are large, 100,000 organs a year – it’s pervasive and it's been going on since the early 2000," he explained.
The most commonly sought-after organ is the kidney, as a person can survive with just one, but Mr Matis revealed Chinese operators often extracted multiple organs at once, killing the prisoner in the process.
