Special measures have been put in place to ensure the public gallery can't see Ms Gobbo's face while she gives evidence.

Nicola Gobbo says Victoria Police 'frequently' made threats to strip her children from her custody, if she refused to comply with orders to live a life in virtual secrecy., Ms Gobbo said she and her family were 'cut off completely' from the world while living under police guard. The arrangement was put in place after Ms Gobbo quietly returned to Australia in late 2019, having fled the country around the time she was outed as Lawyer X, a secret police informer. A decade earlier, Ms Gobbo had double-crossed some of Melbourne's most notorious criminals by acting as their barrister while providing information about them to police.Ms Gobbo told the Supreme Court child protection officials had wanted to take her two children from her in 2019, but she was able to keep them after striking a deal that placed the family 'in the custody of Victoria Police'.Ms Gobbo said she and her partner were 'quite frequently threatened' by Victoria Police members when requests were made to meet the children's needs. 'I mean threatened with a breach proceeding in the Children's Court and the removal of the children,' Ms Gobbo said. Ms Gobbo said her life consisted of police deciding where her family lived, what activities they could do, and the school her kids attended.
