Race cars competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans might have zero carbon emissions within the decade.
The organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ACO, also wants to eliminate CO2 but is looking at an alternative approach, in this case hydrogen, which it wants to introduce also by 2026.
A hydrogen-electric vehicle is essentially an EV that uses a hydrogen fuel cell to power an electric drive system instead of a battery. The fuel cell combines hydrogen with oxygen from the air in a nearly emission-free process that creates electricity.
