The next question is about how to keep interest rates down.
Asked how they will boost productivity, Morrison says skilling Australians is the answer. He points to the billons spent helping businesses digitise their operations, as well as on infrastructure like the Western Sydney airport. “What we are talking about here, if the Fair Work Commission grant a 5 per cent increase, that’s two cups of coffee a day, and the idea that two cups of coffee a day is something that would damage the economy is, I believe, just not the case.
“The cost of everything is going up. The cost of food and vegetables and meat, the essentials in life. “The minimum wage, well, it’s increased by 7 per cent in real terms over the course of our government,” he says.
