Leanne Castley has been elected leader of the Canberra Liberals, following the party's defeat at the ACT election.Former leader Jeremy Hanson will serve as Ms Castley's deputy.
Mr Hanson had previously announced he would stand for the leadership, but yesterday threw his support behind Ms Castley. The Liberals suffered their seventh straight election loss this month, retaining nine of the 25 seats in the ACT Legislative Assembly. Ms Lee, who had been leader since 2020, had argued she was the best person to lead the Liberals to the 2024 election.Ms Castley was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2020, and served as Ms Lee’s deputy from December 2023.
