Australia's Lebanese community is mourning family members killed by Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon.
Among the dead are his relatives Elham Halal, her daughter-in-law Haneen and her brother Raef, and Elham's two grandchildren, five-year-old Celine and three-year-old Eileen.Elham's husband, Hussein Halal, survived because he was outside during the bombing.Thousands have fled southern Lebanon since Israel launched hundreds of air strikes towards the region, killing 558 and injuring thousands.
Mr Hijazi's sister Rabab, who is in Merouaniyeh, has been fearing for her life and sending him panicked voice messages. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said: "Australia is alarmed by the escalation and loss of civilian life in Lebanon and in Israel. Now is the time for restraint and de-escalation."urging them to leave while commercial flights remained available.
Lebanese Australian senior journalist Carol Malouf said: "It's been in the making for a whole year. I'm upset but not surprised."
