Leeds United have confirmed that Djed Spence will face up to eight weeks on the sidelines at Elland Road
Just as Leeds United thought their poor injury luck was starting to turn, they have confirmed that summer signing Djed Spence will miss the next eight weeks following damage to his lateral collateral ligament. Daniel Farke confirmed prior to the win at Millwall that the Tottenham loanee had suffered the issue in training and scan results have now revealed the extent of the damage.
The club's statement says they 'expect Djed to return to play within eight weeks' and despite another international break on the way next month, that means he miss a significant chunk of Championship fixtures just as he was looking to establish himself in the Leeds side following his move from Spurs in the final week of the transfer window.
With Leeds sending Cody Drameh out on loan to Birmingham City and Sam Byram currently Farke's solution for the left-back position, it likely means that Luke Ayling will continue at right-back over the next two months. Jamie Shackleton is perhaps the only other option in the squad to fill in at the back.Should Spence be out for the full eight weeks quoted, that means a mid-November return date will be pencilled in by the club.
That will mean Spence will miss a number of key matches, however. These include Yorkshire derbies against Hull City and Huddersfield Town, clashes against fellow relegated sides Southampton and Leicester City, plus a trip to Norwich who sit fourth in the early Championship table.
