Fourth-placed Southampton trail table-topping Leeds United by nine points but have two games in hand of their automatic promotion rivals after postponements
Southampton boss Russell Martin has described it as a "beautiful thing" that they are being overlooked for an automatic promotion spot going into the business end of the campaign. The Saints trail Championship leaders Leeds United by nine points but have two games in hand after postponements.
"You are getting so close to the end goal and everything you want to achieve," said Martin, whose side head to Elland Road on the final day of the season. "Every game you tick off now, you get closer and closer. Crazy things will happen in the league between now and the end of the season."There will be some strange games and strange results. We have to take care of ourselves. The beautiful thing for us is that we have been written off by everyone.
All four of the promotion-chasing sides play at different times on Good Friday, with Leicester visiting Bristol City in the lunchtime kick-off while United are at Watford in the evening. Martin, meanwhile, says defender Jan Bednarek "should be available" for the Middlesbrough clash after helping Poland secure a place at this summer's European Championship.
