France is on track for a hung parliament after voters turned the tide with a left-wing coalition surging ahead of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally in a major upset, an official exit poll has revealed.

The left-wing coalition called New Popular Front , a blend of greens, communists, socialists and Trotskyists who joined forces three weeks ago, has undone the first-round successes of the right win National Rally. “Absolutely no one in France, amongst the commentariat, looking at this election, predicted this result," he said.
Mr Macron, who will remain as president until 2027, is set to govern the national assembly only in an intermediary way for the next 12 months before another election can be held if he cannot successfully negotiate between the different parties.
