State legislators have an opportunity this year to make a bold investment in PA’s public schools.

A series ofrecently released by the advocacy campaign PA Schools Work illustrates how school districts are struggling with increased costs while year after year the state legislature fails to do its part. For example, Central Dauphin School District, where I serve as a School Director, has been hit hard by increases in unfunded mandates like cyber charter tuition and pension costs in the last few years. .

The good news? State legislators have an opportunity this year to make a bold investment in PA’s public schools because billions in additional revenue will be available to make a significant down payment on what is owed to students – and simultaneously relieve some of the responsibility from local taxpayers.Beth Sviben – Central Dauphin School Board Director, Assistant Board Secretary
