Harvey Borrington died in hospital from head injuries, including a fractured skull

Harvey Borrington died from head injuries, including a fractured skull and a bleed on the brainA woman who killed her disabled three-year-old stepson by hitting him in frustration has been given a 15-year prison sentence.Leila Borrington, 23, wasThe prosecution said she struck Harvey several times to the head at her home in Nottinghamshire in August 2021.

Nottingham Crown Court heard this followed a history of abuse towards Harvey, who was non-verbally autistic and therefore could not tell his biological mother about the abuse. Jonas Hankin KC, prosecuting, said Harvey's age and disability made him vulnerable, which were aggravating features."His challenging behaviour demanded greater empathy and kindness from his carers. It cannot justify the defendant's offending in any way."

Borrington told the trial she had never harmed Harvey, claiming he had fallen off a sofa and banged his head. However, an expert witness called by the prosecution said she believed Harvey had died as a result of "direct blunt force trauma", sustained after Borrington "assaulted" the youngster.
