US Vice President Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the upcoming election, hoping the 60-year-old military veteran will help her campaign appeal to middle-class and rural Americans and create a clear contrast to the personalities of Donald Trump and JD Vance.
Governor Walz entered the frame as a potential vice presidential pick through a series of plain-spoken speeches and media appearances in the wake of President Biden announcing he would not continue to run, winning plaudits for his direct but pleasant approach. Senator Vance was quick to seize on those claims, arguing the pick"highlights how radical Kamala Harris is," in brief comments to reporters in Philadelphia, where he is due to speak at a number of campaign events.
