Letter: 'We hear a lot of talk from our state leaders promising to save the lake, but when it came time to actually do something about it they failed.'

The reason Sen. Scott Sandall gave for his opposition was that defining an actual elevation number for a terminal lake seemed too rigid and too many entities rely on water diversions for the state to prioritize saving the lake. This is a flawed argument.

The Great Salt Lake is more than just a terminal lake, it’s the lifeblood of this community. If the lake dries up the entire community will suffer the dire consequences of its demise. We hear a lot of talk from our state leaders promising to save the lake, but when it came time to actually do something about it they failed. Lots of money is being spent and promises being made but still not enough water is making its way to the lake.

The majority of the public that attended and called into the meeting were in support of this resolution. It’s time our state leaders listen to their constituents and save the Great Salt Lake.
