“I’ll tolerate losing elections here in Utah if it means I can speak my truths and advocate aggressively for a safer, more sustainable world,” writes Bernie in Salt Lake City.

| Nov. 27, 2022, 1:00 p.m. and others who think giving in and nodding to ignorance in an effort to win has merit. Utah is dominated by people who think and act conservatively. It has been, along with Mississippi, the most religious and conservative state in the country.

Should Democrats become election deniers and think like those who deny that the pandemic happened and our existence isn’t threatened while we promote growth policies that are destroying the environment? Should we support policies that deny health care to follow Americans and stigmatize anyone that does not look and act like us? Should we stand beside the road and cheer when Donald Trump next visits...

Nope, winning a couple of seats in a conservative state where Democrats will never have a majority isn’t worth it if I have to nod my head and say yes sir in the face of ignorance, and in turn advocate for policies that help no one but the rich. I’ll tolerate losing elections here in Utah if it means I can speak my truths and advocate aggressively for a safer, more sustainable world.Bernie Hart, Salt Lake City
