After consultation with his international counterparts the Chief Medical Officer noted countries that had implemented restrictions for travellers from China were all in the northern hemisphere and some were experiencing significant waves of their own. In his final summary Prof Kelly said he was of the belief there was not “sufficient public health rationale” to impose testing requirements.
China is expected to have three COVID-19 waves over winter with the current spike predicted to run until mid-January.
