Evan Vucci, STF / Associated PressI was very sad to see that my Republican Rep. Mark Dorazio, who represents District 122, who does not vote for any clarification to or exception for Texas’ harsh abortion laws, also voted against expanding maternal health care to 12 months post pregnancy for mothers on Medicaid.

Texas has among the highest postpartum maternal mortality rate. We hope to see more compassion from our representative, and we hope you consider this record in making your next recommendations.I am willing to suppose that the Texas Legislature has good intentions in posting copies of The Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. Further, I imagine the expected outcome of this initiative is to encourage students to do good works and be good, mindful citizens.

If we would like to encourage positive action within our classrooms, and from there to our broader society, a better foundation would be from Matthew 25:31-46. Most of us are familiar with that scene: Those on the right can come through the gate and those on the left will never get in. What did those on the right do? “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in….”

I suspect the posting of this scene would generate quite a discussion — even, excitement, in the schools: “What can we do!” These words might be problematic for politicians, those in charge of the formal structures that deal with the hungry, the strangers, sick, incarcerated and so forth.Looking for more timeThe centerpiece headline should read, “Biden wants more time to do more damage.” And that will surely happen if he gets in again.
