Readers enjoyed the work of the late historian David McCullough; worry about the legality of paying college athletes; and discuss two columns on abortion.
Recently a Texas Tech “collective” announced payments of $25,000 to every football player while a Southern Methodist University booster group “ponied up” a whopping $36,000 per player. Under the guise of these collectives, the boosters and money people behind these and other programs around the country are turning men’s college football and basketball into a “pay for play” initiative.
In a pregnancy who are the stakeholders? Is the woman the only stakeholder? One might ask what about the child, father/husband, grandparents, siblings, and yes, even the state? There are numerous stakeholders, so to say “abortion is none of your business” tends to deny reality.I have lived in Dallas since I was 3 years old and would not have wanted to be raised anywhere else. Now, as I am getting ready for my last year here before I leave for college, I’m really noticing everything I’ve taken for granted and will miss so dearly. The greenery, beautiful lakes, unique native flowers and soul-warming breezes.
