Letters to the Editor
Wisdom and courage are required to say “I was wrong” about guns or anything else. Yep, grandmothers are wise, and we love our grandchildren. Many of us have money, and most of us have time. Look out for what grannies of America might do to prevent 6,000 children a year in the U.S. from dying or being injured by guns!Re: “This is school choice,” by John W. Joyce, and “More schools will open,” by Tim Farage, Aug. 5 Letters.
Whatever the motivation, rather than the underhanded attacks, e.g., inciting parents to attack school boards, banning books and history lessons, and requiring but not fully paying for armed guards, why don’t these folks make their case in the public square. They can openly present their plan and supporting data to show why a patchwork of charter and private schools will best serve all schoolchildren.

Before criticizing the eight Quonset hut apartments that are only a small part of a multi-use development, observe the depressingly mundane “little boxes made of ticky tacky ... and they all look just the same” of your own suburban neighborhoods. There is a Dallas connection to the Oppenheimer saga. Dr. Edward Teller, J. Robert Oppenheimer’s rival, was a frequent visitor to Dallas in the ‘50s and ‘60s. He was a guest and patient of Drs. J.R. and Jack Maxfield.
