Letters to the Editor
Readers are upset by the police treatment of security guard; offer tips for HUD to help with low-income communities; question the proposed law to ban travel for abortions; and have complaints about sanitation services in Dallas.
Having lived in Dallas and the surrounding communities for 55 years, I have seen great strides made by the Dallas Police Department over the years in diversity training. However, it’s clear from this incident that more work needs to be done. It’s too late for Hayes to get the last two years of his life back and for Dallas County taxpayers to avoid bearing the cost of any likely settlement with him.
Lubbock County has outlawed transporting a woman on its roads for an abortion. Of course, this was approved by an all-male board. These are public roads paid by taxpayers.
I accept it is difficult for sanitation vehicles to navigate this area as the streets are very narrow. However, the city of Dallas years ago allowed this addition to be built too dense and without adequate street space, and now is not willing to maintain what was created by a poor zoning decision.
