The Legislature has the opportunity to encourage those who have the calling to go into education to choose that career path. Anyone who is or has been in public education knows that being an educator is a calling, not just a job. Teachers work hard.

Our lawmakers have an opportunity to make a statement with these changes that will redound to them for generations.Re: “Dinner unfolds against serious backdrop,” Sunday news story. The president claimed our nation’s strength lies in the “power of our example.” Allowing close allies to get away with the murder of American journalists is setting a terrible example.Re: “Highway expansion squeezes area woman — Forest Hill resident facing eviction fights money offer,” by Dave Lieber, Sunday Metro column.

Saturday’s op-ed by Ozzie Garza was a treat. We worry so much about today’s youth, especially since the pandemic, but Garza made me feel they’re OK and thriving. We got a kick out of a student’s comments in his creative writing class . Thank you, Ozzie Garza, for your much appreciated work. Quillin writes that President Joe Biden “still has the stamina and strength to be president” because he walked up steep stairs without help. We all remember President Franklin D. Roosevelt led the country in a wheelchair.
