Re: “This Is About Guns, Not Immigration — Don’t be deceived by the inevitable spin regarding the Cleveland killings,” Tuesday editorial. Thank you, thank you, ...
By the way, the cartoon adjacent to the editorial was perfect, too! It stated, “If the answer to violence is more guns, does that mean the answer to alcoholism is more whiskey?”I greatly appreciated your editorial on the tragic shooting in Cleveland that left five people dead, including a young child, that pointed out the issue is guns not immigration. I was not surprised at Gov. Greg Abbott’s initial response to the incident when he spoke of “illegal immigrants.
Many Texans have been single-issue voters when the issue was abortion. Although I view single-issue voting as the least intelligent way to exercise that right, I have decided I will vote for no politician who is not in favor of gun control legislation to get rid of these weapons.Sorry, governor. You don’t get a mulligan on your hateful comments after a horrific shooting. You said it, you own it!What a terrible take on this tragedy. It is of course not about guns.
They did not support law enforcement, which was against lowering the gun ownership requirements. They are not protecting the most vulnerable in their state. Yet, they are in lockstep with the National Rifle Association and gun manufacturers. Money over people’s safety. Despicable.Sorry, but I’m tired of people complaining about gun violence. Gun control in the U.S. is an oxymoron. It’s kind of like sending a cow out to catch a hare. Or, maybe trying to stop a river with just your bare hands.
And then he has the nerve to call five dead victims of the state that he runs “illegal Immigrants.” How dare he! The entire blame should be put on the mentally ill person who committed the crime. Some blame can be put on district attorneys who release violent criminals with little or no bond, or with ankle monitors that are easily removed. And maybe laws on the books should be strictly enforced.
Back to the NRA. The NRA supports all our freedoms and has been teaching gun safety to adults and children for 100 years, so please give us a break, folks. I pray daily for our country. This is regarding the Wednesday editorial cartoon on active shooter drills. As Cold War kids, we prepared for the communists’ nuclear missiles by obediently hunkering below our desks or crouching in our school hallways, although most of us realized we’d be goners because of nuclear radiation.
