Lewis Macari score in Notts County's victory away at Gillingham
Lewis Macari could not hide his excitement after scoring his first league goal in English football - a stunning winning goal for Notts County in their victory away at Gillingham. The Stoke City loanee came on in the first half of Saturday’s game for what was his league debut for the Magpies in place of Richard Brindley at centre-back, firing in a rocket from 20 yards with 12 minutes to play to ensure Luke Williams’ side got back to winning ways.
"All I could do when I wasn’t in the team was keep learning from the gaffer and when my opportunity comes, take it, which I feel I have done. “We controlled the game for the majority of the first half which I think helped me settle into it. We had a lot of the ball so I could get some touches in early and feel my way into things I love the way we play so it was an enjoyable start. We hung on in the end and defended well which meant it was a good day in the end.”
He explained: “I remember Jim just telling me to push on, which I did and Dan has just laid it off for me. I saw it coming and I just hit it - I actually thought the goalkeeper might’ve saved it at first because he got a hand to it but he put it into the side netting.
