Attempt to ‘cure’ LGBT+ people are still legal in the UK, more than four years after the Government first promised a ban A video released by the Ban Conversion Therapy Coalition highlights the repeated promises that Ms Truss made when she was Minister for Women and Equalities to ban conversion therapy Leading LGBT+ charities have urged Liz Truss not to break her promise to ban conversion therapy practices for all.
A video released by the Ban Conversion Therapy Coalition – made up of 79 LGBT+ and human rights charities, including Stonewall – highlights the repeated promises that Ms Truss made when she was Minister for Women and Equalities to ban the “abhorrent” practice. Ms Truss, who double-jobbed as Foreign Secretary and equalities minister until the day she became Prime Minister, had repeatedly told Parliament she would move forwards with a long-promised ban, insisting conversion practices “have no place in our society”.in July 2018 but, more than four years later, legislation has still not been brought before Parliament to do so.and a wave of resignations from LGBT+ advisers after reports the policy would be shelved entirely.
