A Liberal candidate has been forced to defend herself against allegations she posted anti-Muslim comments on social media.

Liberal candidate for the ultra-marginal seat of Lyons, Jessica Whelan, has been accused of saying Muslims should be banned from Australia and Sharia Law supporters should have their genitals mutilated. Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who is currently in Tasmania campaigning with Ms Whelan, says the comments were made by someone impersonating his candidate and the Federal Police are investigating the matter. Liberal Party campaign spokesman Simon Birmingham expects Ms Whelan to be axed on Friday.
