The Coalition parties will today vote on who should lead them in the wake of the election. The Liberals' meeting appears set to be a simple one, but the Nationals will have a three-way contest.
His deputy will be former environment minister Sussan Ley, who is a New South Wales MP and is not aligned with the conservative or moderate factions.Some of his colleagues have raised concerns that he may be "hard to sell" to voters because he has a perception problem, but publicly"I think to have Peter Dutton as the leader and Sussan Ley as the deputy leader would give the breadth, the skills and the experience that we need to take us forward," she said.
"Peter Dutton I think is going to make an outstanding leader for the Liberal Party, and he is someone who is going to bring us back to that centre-right perspective as we look to rebuild into the future," she said.David Littleproud will seek the National Party's top position. "I think we have a pretty solid track record, in fact a track record that would be the envy of many other parties," he told the ABC.
"From inland rail to the construction of dams … allied health systems … that have made regional people better, put them in a better standard of living, in a stronger position, and we want to continue that on and I want to make sure that we bring the party together because it's a party that I love and I have served since I joined it in 1997."
