Former New South Wales RSL President James Brown will run as the Liberal Party candidate against ‘teal’ independent MP Sophie Scamps in the seat of Mackellar at the next federal election.
The Liberal Party has chosen its candidate to run against Teal Independent MP Sophie Scamps in the seat of Mackellar at the next federal election. He was preselected after a ballot at the Pittwater RSL in Mona Vale on Sunday and was previously married to Daisy Turnbull, daughter of former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Mr Brown recently ran the Liberal Party’s by-election campaign in the overlapping state seat of Pittwater and his bid for Mackellar preselection enjoyed the backing of Liberal Party figures including former Speaker and Mackellar MP Bronwyn Bishop. Seven candidates were on the preselection ballot on Sunday.
They included former northern beaches councillor Michael Gencher, former pilot and co-founder of Pandora Jewellery Brook Adcock, and defence analyst Lincoln Parker, who previously ran for the neighbouring federal seat of Warringah.Mackellar, which includes areas such as Narrabeen and Palm Beach, is one of several blue-ribbon seats won by ‘teal’ independents at the last federal election.
