A former candidate and staffer with Opposition Leader John Pesutto has won Liberal Party preselection for the by-election triggered by Daniel Andrews' resignation.
Mr Pesutto issued a statement on Wednesday night revealing Courtney Mann was chosen by the party to contest the Mulgrave poll on November 18.
Since the defeat, he has"worked as an adviser in the Baillieu-Napthine Governments and as a senior policy adviser in the office of the Leader of the Opposition". The by-election will be a major test for Jacinta Allan's leadership, with the poll being held less than two months after she succeeded Mr Andrews as Victorian premier.
Mr Andrews took 51 per cent of the first preference vote - down 8.5 per cent - then Mr Cook on 18 per cent and the Liberal Party's Michael Piastrino on 17.2 per cent. The Greens' candidate is Dandenong councillor Rhonda Garad, who is also a"public health professional working at nearby Monash University".
