A Liberal senator has denied it was Scott Morrison’s decision to use carry over credits in the Paris climate agreement, despite the decision being made on his watch.

The use of carryover credits is contentious – and would allow Australia to use credit from beating the Kyoto Protocol targets to meet its commitment to the Paris Agreement Liberal Senator James Paterson told Sky News the use of carry over credits was “completely uncontroversial” but when asked if he was aware the

policy only came into place in 2019 he said he “wasn’t sure if that was right". “It is an accepted part of the climate change framework, it has for many years .... and it’s always been an option for Australia and other countries to utilise,” Mr Paterson said. “It’s a completely uncontroversial part of climate change policy.”
