Liberal Senator Andrew Bragg says Kevin Rudd is struggling to stay “relevant” by attacking the Coalition’s $4.5 billion NBN upgrade on Twitter.
The plan – which is expected to be unveiled by Communications Minister Paul Fletcher today – promised ultra-fast internet connections to homes if users chose to significantly upgrade their plans. Mr Rudd criticised the plan, labelling it a “mega backflip” from Scott Morrison. “For seven years they’ve botched my govt’s 2009 plan for fibre to the premises instead wasting billions with fibre to the mythical 'node', giving us the worst speeds in the world,” he said via Twitter.
” Mr Bragg responded to the comments, telling Sky News “Kevin Rudd is desperate to be relevant”. “Of course he’s been out talking about NBN and superannuation in the last couple of weeks, and you know he’s obviously looking for something to do”. The senator defended the new NBN scheme, saying the government have “tried to move to a technology agnostic approach and much more demand driven approach, which I think is appropriate”.
