Lighting to be installed in memory of teen who died in river

Specialist lighting will be installed on Linwood’s Tweedie Hall in the new year in a move inspired by the memory of local boy William McNally.

The 13-year-old died on June 5, 2021, after getting into difficulty in the water at the Clay Pits, part of the River Gryffe, while swimming with friends.

Councillor Innes said: “I vowed to light up Linwood and I have had confirmation that the LED lighting around the Tweedie Hall will be in place early in the new year.Drowning Prevention Day in Linwood next year and that is what inspired me to pursue this in the first place. His home town had no such infrastructure to raise awareness, Councillor Innes said, but that is set to change.
