Power outage causes havoc for some Hollywood insiders the day before the Oscars.
, the first reports of a problem came at about 1 p.m. The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel, which is across the street from the complex and is commonly used as a staging area for crews and talent, started experiencing “a series of losses and recoveries in power.” Since it is common for celebs to prep their wardrobe and makeup there, one must imagine at least one hairstylist thought their power blower knocked out the juice before they realized it was across the entire block.
While all of Ovation Hollywood, formerly known as Hollywood & Highland, was hit, sources told the trade outlet that inside the Dolby, there was only a “brief outage,” and that plans for telecast rehearsals were continuing as planned. Videos of shoppers and/or befuddled industry people caught up in the temporary lack-of-juice soon made their way to social media.Since this ultimately is nothing more than a first-world inconvenience, many of the comments poked fun. I was particularly amused by user @redmcgraw1 writing “omg its like Dr Zhivago” and the many yuksters quoting comedian Mitch Hedberg’s bit about how escalators can never be broken, they can only temporarily be stairs.
wrote that some people were, however, stuck in elevators and some shop owners ended up closing early for the day Furthermore,wrote that the Loews Hollywood Hotel had power and computer issues for upwards of three hours. The Loews housed the team that handles media credentialing for the ceremony and red carpet, and the lack of power brought everything to a standstill.
