Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway will receive a new station and interpretation centre at the southern terminus, located within the picturesque Skegness Water Leisure Park.The project is expected to have a positive impact on Skegness's economy and attract more visitors to explore the rich heritage of the coast.
Work on the new station and interpretation centre will commence in September of this year and continue until the beginning of the railway's operational season in 2024. Established in 1960, the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway holds the distinction of being the world's first heritage railway built by enthusiasts on a greenfield site.
“Skegness, as we know it, was only brought about because of the railways – before they reached the area, Skegness was a fishing hamlet of just six houses. Everything we have is down to the railways and the LCLR contributes towards that heritage.”
