A first half double from Chris Shields gives Linfield the points to strengthen their grip at the top of the league
A first half double by Chris Shields saw Linfield run out comfortable 2-0 winners over Glentoran in the first Big Two clash of the season.
The Glens had the better of the opening exchanges but the Blues grew into the game and deservedly went in front on 37 minutes as Shields found the net with a shot which nicked off Bobby Burns. And the midfielder added a second from the spot a minute before half-time after Aidan Wilson clipped Chris McKee in the box.
The Glens stirred at the start of the second half but they could not find a way through the Blues rearguard as Linfield secured the win to move 11 points clear of their old rivals, who have now lost their last three league games.
