Ballarat Wildlife Park has welcomes a new cutie - golden wombat Manuka.

The park said it's "so proud and delighted" at its new arrival, which is it's third successful Southern Hairy Nosed Wombat breeding.5 of 179The park is also a good place to see koalas, kangaroos, penguins, tigers, tortoises, crocs, snakes and meerkats.Three endangered Komodo dragon hatchlings are making their public debut after their birth caused a stir in April 2022.In the wild they're only found in one place, Komodo National Park in Indonesia.

The Australian Reptile Park is the first zoo in Australia to successfully breed and hatch the species.Head reptile keeper, Jake Meney, is thrilled to finally be able to share his excitement about the reptiles. "Working with these dragons for the last two months has been incredible. Even at this size, they've got all the intelligence, attitude and inquisitiveness of an adult dragon," he said.Australian Reptile Park"When they hatched, the dragons all weighed in between 112g-116g. Now, they've all gained around eight to 12 grams each," Meney said.

"By the time they're about a year old, they should weigh around one kilogram and measure almost one metre in length."Fully grown Komodo dragons are the heaviest lizard on earth.The carnivorous lizards also have a unique method of killing.They rely on camouflage and "pounce" when a victim passes by.Should it manage to escape, death by blood poisoning can occur within 24 hours.
