A hammer-wielding assailant has attacked an exiled aide of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in Lithuania — something the country blamed on Russia.
Authorities there have blamed Russia for the attack, which it said was designed to stop the Navalny team influencing Russia's upcoming election.Russian President Vladimir Putin will seek to extend his reign by six years at an election to be held in the coming days.
Mr Volkov himself pointed the finger directly at Mr Putin, writing online that he had returned home on Wednesday morning after a night in hospital, having suffered a broken arm and injuries from about 15 hammer blows to the leg. "They know that Putin not only kills people inside Russia, he also kills people outside of Russia," Mr Volkov said in the interview. "We live in very dark times."
