Little league style: Inside the park homer caps off Rangers comeback win over Angels
“I think guys are really starting to hone in on some things and just have really good execution,” manager Chris Woodward said. “If we are going to do selfless things like we did that inning, if that defines our ballclub, we can do really good things.”
This little winning streak has, in large parts, been due to growth on the offensive end, in which some players seem to be starting to seek out answers from the coaching staff,“I know we haven’t had a ton of success offensively yet, but I like the buy in from the guys,” Woodward said. “You’ve got guys that have had success in the past. You want players to own their career and never, ever want to come across as telling you what to do, and this is how you’re going to have success.
The eighth inning was full of examples. García has been perhaps the most noticeable recently. After early season struggles with trying to continue to be disciplined/patient, García has finally started to find a comfort spot between being more controlled in the strike zone and being aggressive on what he wants to hit. On Tuesday, that led to a pair of hits and a walk. His infield single in the eighth drove home Corey Seager, who’d led off with a double.
Kole Calhoun followed with a walk. It was his third time on base in the game. He’d hit a two-run homer earlier, his third of the homestand, during which he’s heated up after a difficult first month. He’s hitting .361 with a 1.193 OPS over his last 11 games.
