Doctors in a Ukrainian military hospital near Ukraine's eastern border have virtually no time for breaks as Russia pushes further south.
Andrii, a doctor working in a Ukrainian military hospital near the front lines of the war against Russia, has virtually no time for breaks.Andrii, who asked his surname not be published, moved to the front lines from Kyiv when the war beganDoctors at the military hospital regularly work more than 12 hours at a time to cope with urgent cases
Andrii, 47, is from Kyiv and was working there until Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February when he moved to the front line."I'm just doing my job. All of us do what's needed, we're just fulfilling our duty," he says."To a certain extent at least. I'm not saying that I'm doing something 'extra', just everyone is doing their work, and all of this together creates a certain teamwork spirit."His workload? That depends on the war, he says.
Russian forces captured virtually all of the Luhansk region in battles through June that killed thousands on both sides.Urgent cases can arrive at the hospital at all hours, putting extra strain on staff. They work 12-hour shifts in theory, but often stay longer if there are a lot of urgent cases.
