Josh Frydenberg has played down Matt Canavan's comment that net zero is 'dead'
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg is playing down remarks by one of his government colleagues that achieving net zero emissions by 2050 is "dead". Both the Coalition and Labor have committed to reaching net zero by 2050 – with Labor committing to the target a couple of years ago and the Coalition announcing its commitment late last year.has consistently been opposed to the target and yesterday ramped up his opposition to the goal, telling the ABC's Afternoon Briefing the idea was “dead”.The net zero thing is all sort of dead anyway.
But the Coalitions' policy is very clear, it's very firm and its nonnegotiable. That is net zero emissions by 2050.was forced to clarify the government’s position on net zero yesterday as well, after the Liberal candidate for the Queensland seat of Flynn,Mr Morrison said Mr Boyce was talking about having wriggle room when it came to how net zero is achieved, not the target itself.
